“For three years now we have been able to consistently maintain a Google top 3 position (mostly Number 1) for the most relevant keywords for our business including Car Rental Gold Coast; Gold Coast Car Rental; Car Hire Gold Coast; Gold Coast Car Hire; Cheap car Rental. Some of the lesser keyword combinations drop us down the rankings a little, but they are far less popular as keywords than the high level ones mentioned above.

As you are aware, Google rankings are an ever-changing status based on Google’s assessment of the relevance of the content of the website to the keywords, the number of pages visited, the length of time of each visit, the departure page and other factors. Essentially they are measuring the degree to which the viewer is getting what they were looking for and the degree to which the viewer is interested in the website.

Whilst we have discussed this excellent performance of our website, I have never written to you to formally express my thanks to you for this creation and its performance.

What has prompted this email is that we were recently contacted by an organisation called Car Hire Search, based in New Zealand who conducted a survey on 23rd June 2013 to determine the top 50 car rental websites in Australia (I guess they were looking to see who their competition is now that they have entered the Australian market).

Their survey was conducted on a national basis and was over an 8 hour period using 797 different keyword combinations. In the top 8 ratings, there were three sites similar to Car Hire Search inasmuch as they are actually comparison sites representing Avis; Budget; Europcar; Hertz, Red Spot & Thrifty – between these sites they have about 1,000 Australian locations and many more overseas ones. The remainder of the top 8 were the multi-nationals: Avis; Budget; Europcar; Hertz & Thrifty.

We came in at number 9, making us the highest ranking independent car rental website in Australia. As we have only operated on a local basis on the Gold Coast, I had no idea that we would be “even on the radar” in a national survey.

I am extremely pleased with this totally unexpected outcome and when I think that in April this year we changed from a URL that we had been using for 11 years to a completely new URL, it leaves me in awe of your efforts to create a visually pleasing website that does a great job for us and also how you managed the potentially retrograde (in terms of Google rankings) step of changing from goldcoastcarrentals.com.au to familycarrentals.com.au.
